Why My Home Renovations Is a Branding Lesson You Might Relate to

When I first bought my home I COULD NOT WAIT to start decorating, and tackled room after room. I was so proud and loved each room, until suddenly I realised I loved nothing. Everything was disjoined, nothing matched and realised I'd made a huge mistake. After all that time, effort and money, nothing quite gelled and I was so frustrated. At the time I hadn't considered the importance of a cohesive look throughout the whole house to ensure a unified feel that flowed to give it personality.

The Branding Parallel

This design dilemma mirrors what I see with many brands. Updating pieces one at a time, thinking you’re staying current, saving money or whatever, can make a brand feel like a patchwork quilt. Here’s why that’s a problem:

1️⃣ Fragmented Visuals: Like my house, a brand that evolves in bits and pieces can feel disjointed and inconsistent.

2️⃣ Design Fatigue: Trends change fast (I’m currently nudging a client to ditch her outdated logo font for something sleek and professional 🙌). Having a vision is important.

3️⃣ Mixed Messaging: Just as my rooms lack a unified theme, brands can suffer from inconsistent messaging, leading to overwhelm and confusion. Literally it will stress you out.

What I'd do differently

If I could go back in years, I’d understand better the value of doing it right. I’d have saved overwhelm, stress and cash. The same goes for branding and everywhere I look I can see examples of this in brands. Whats more, there are brands who are unaware of why their brand isn't working, but they can't see where the problems lie in their branding

What You Can Do

All it needs is a little TLC and advice. It’s never too late to fix things and can start with a mood board. It really helps you focus on what you like and how the overall picture will come together. It can really help to work with someone who understands business branding, and I'm happy to help if you need a hand. Feel free to reach out whenever you're ready🌟 Therese 🫶
